Overview

10 days safari takes you from Arusha the safari capital of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. You will get to visit the cultural heritage, Tanzanite experience, coffee plantations before heading on to Tarangire for two nights known for the scenic baobab trees and named after the Tarangire river the source of water in the area a great destination for birdwatching and wildlife.

Next two nights in Karatu gets you to experience Village walk to Mto wa Mbu, tour the village by Tuk Tuk, visit a Maasai Boma as well as many other cultural experiences.

Moving on to Serengeti National Park’s vast plains, home to the Big Five and renowned for the great migration of over one million wildebeest and other animals annually for two nights.

The last night is spent in Ngorongoro Conservation Area, made from a collapsed caldera and home to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and “big 5” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). Retuning to Arusha for our out bound flight.

Itinerary

Met on arrival at Arusha Airport by our Tanzanian partners’ representative, and transferred to Arusha Coffee lodge or similar for check-in, and have lunch, afternoon relax after long flight.

Meals: Breakfast, and dinner (subject to flight times). Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

After breakfast, a drive into Arusha towns Maasai Market, visit the Tanzanite Museum which requires a minimum of 45 minutes tour including the cinema
The world's only source of this alluring stone is located on one very small patch of land at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Tanzania, a country rich in folklore, boasts an ancient story in which the local Maasai saw a bolt of lightning come down from the sky and strike the ground turning all the rocks to a shimmering blue – Tanzanite, visit of the Cultural Heritage Center, Old Boma Museum, Snake Park with lunch at Rivertrees Country Inn.

Return to the coffee lodge for an afternoon tour of the coffee plantation, where you see how they pick, roast and pack it. You may even taste a cup. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Breakfast at the Lodge, check-out for a 2hr 29min/71.5mi drive to Olpopongi Maasai Cultural Village and Museum, this is the first authentic Maasai Boma with a Museum and overnight facilities in Tanzania.

The aim here is to share the authentic Maasai life and culture in a 100% traditionally built village known as Boma with its unique museum. Providing the maximum respect to the Maasai tribe, built by a multi-cultural construction team majority being women and some men from the nearby Maasai village. Some additions such as exterior washrooms and kitchen are different from the culture.

The visit here, supports local Maasai families with all the necessary needs, medical treatments and education. The jewelry on sale is hand-made and produced by the local Maasai women of other nearby villages. Guided translation can be done in several foreign languages at an extra charge.

A 4 hr 36min (145mi) drive to Mpingo Ridge lodge for check-in and lunch, a siesta with option of Spa treatment (at extra charge) or relax by the pool. Your afternoon game drive begins a 33min (11.7mi) to the Tarangire National Park entrance gate
the 6th largest National Park in Tanzania, with vast areas of mixed acacia woodlands and wonderful ribbons of the aquatic forest, the giant baobab tree that can live up to 600 years storing between 300 and 900 liters of water.

Tarangire River remains the only source of water and consequently attracts large numbers of wildebeests, there are large numbers of impalas, elands, buffaloes, giraffes, Bohor reedbuck, Coke’s hartebeest, Thompson’s gazelle, the greater and lesser kudu and on rare occasions, the unusual gerenuk and fringe –eared Oryx are also seen.

There are over 545 species plus various predators like lions that come to drink and graze around the river banks. Game drive takes you to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa with several herds of up to 300 members per herd. Return to the lodge, freshen-up for dinner. There is an option of a night game drive which is available at the lodge.

Meals: lunch, dinner and overnight at Mpingo Ridge Lodge

Option of a hot air-balloon safari followed by a champagne breakfast or depart for an early morning game viewing drive return for breakfast and check-out of Mpingo Ridge Lodge for a 2hr 20min drive (73.8mi) to Acacia Farm lodge Karatu.

Check-in at the lodge, freshen up for lunch, followed by relation by the pool or treat yourself to Spa treatment (at extra charge).

You will have a whole load of activities to spread within the 2 nights stay, cycling, birding from the checklist of 1,14 confirmed bird species, 30 are endemic, 44 are vagrancy. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 5 :
Karatu

Full day in Karatu, enjoy the following experiences; A 35-40 minutes’ walk with the professional Naturalist visiting the coffee farm and vegetable garden while spotting vast species of birds, trees and shrubs along the way, the lodge has bicycles for touring, take a village walk Mto wa Mbu, Village tour in Tuk-Tuk ride, visit to a Maasai Boma.

Homemade meal in a local Mum’s home, Tinga Tinga paint class, visit the local traditional brewery, mountain bikes through the farming village, Quad-biking tour.

Early breakfast at the lodge, check-out with 1 hr 10min (30.9mi) drive to Kisima Ngeda Camp, overlooking the salt-water seasonal Lake Eyasi nestled in a fever tree forest. Check-in to these eight palm-roofed, tented chalets with expansive views of the Alipi escarpment whose wall rises 2,000 feet up into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area providing a stunning backdrop.

Our Partners’ Driver will drive you to Lake Eyasi with the picnic lunches to visit the Hadzabe Tribe, traditional hunters- gatherer lifestyle and the Datoga who are skilled farmers and craftsman, for a cultural experience.

* The camp arranges fly camping; however, this will require an extra night which can be incorporated to extend your safari if booked. Return to the Camp for a hot shower, freshen-up before dinner and retire to a lullaby of Nightjars and sounds of from the forest.

Early breakfast at the Camp, before checking out by 7:00am with picnic lunch for a 71.5mi drive to central Serengeti approximately 4 hrs., with a visit of Olduvai Gorge enroute a 2hr 35min (67.4mi) famous for its archaeological findings of fossils of animals discovered by the Leaky family.

A stop for picnic lunch at Naabi entrance gate to Serengeti National Park. Your game drive commences after lunch as you proceed to Entara Olmara Camp. A drive in Tanzania’s oldest and most popular park, famed for its annual migration where some 6 million hooves pound the open plains, as over 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson Gazelles join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing, great herds of buffalo, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebra’s, Ostrich, Impala’s and Lions excluding the Rhino.

Lake Ndutu is paradise for birds and bird-watchers with over 500 bird species such as Ostrich, Secretary bird seen on the grasslands, the Black Eagles on the Lobo Hills, Larks, Kori Bustard, the Lilac-breasted roller.

3 endangered Tanzanian species: Grey rumped spur fowl, Fischer’s lovebird and the babbler-like Rufous tailed weaver. The honey guide lives in a symbiotic relationship with the Ratel (Honey Badger) as the honey guide leads the Ratel to bee hives.

Close to evening return to the Entara Olmara Camp for check-in, freshen-up before dinner. Your stay in this stylish comfortable, eight tented suites in net draped king-size beds.

Note: Fly camping is an overnight experience that places guests in the wilderness in a simple camp, allowing them to be immersed in the sounds of the African savannah at night and to appreciate the magnificent African skies. Evening, the meals are eaten in the open as stories are shared of your African adventures around a campfire.

A full day in Serengeti National Park, with options of: Hot air-balloon ride
This before dawn adventure, begins with a drink of tea or coffee before dawn, our partner’s driver will drive you to the point of the Hot Air Balloon Flight’s departure.

Subject to weather, the experienced pilots will take you up, over the plains of the Serengeti for approx. 1-2 hours ride, this leads to Champagne breakfast under the canopy of acacia trees served on linen, bone China and Sheffield cutlery in true
‘Out of Africa’ style. This will be booked in advance and at an extra charge.

Or
An early morning game drive in the park, returning for breakfast, before you proceed on a mid- morning game drive in this UNESCO World Heritage Site, for optimal observe and one of the best areas for wildlife photography. The local Maasai guide will know where the animals are despite the changes in migration patterns.

Game drives over the savanna of Soit le Motonyi and close to the acacia woodlands that border the rolling plains where you may expect to see all the big cats – lion, leopard and cheetah. Other commonly seen species include serval, elephant, giraffe, zebra, warthog and hyena. Return for lunch at the Camp.

Guided walking safaris in the remote river valley is available for guests aged 12 years and over. Walks bring you close to all things large and small, hippo pods in river pools, fig encrusted kopjes and the life of the insects. Return for dinner at the Camp

Early breakfast at the Camp, check-out on a 85km drive to The Highlands Lodge, enroute with a 5 hour game drive, descend to the floor of Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken caldera with the most wonderful game viewing. The crater is one of most densely populated African wildlife areas in the world with an estimated 30,000 different animal species including Tanzania’s remining black Rhino.

The crater is supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, inhabiting wildlife such as Wildebeest, Zebra, Buffalo, Eland, Warthog, Hippo, and giant African elephants. This area has a dense population of predators including Lions, Hyenas, Jackals, Cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard.

You will have lunch at the designated picnic site at the side of the hippo pool and continue with a game drive as we drive up the crater rim for your overnight and dinner at The Highlands Lodge approximately 40 kms north of the Ngorongoro Crater, you will have a game drive enroute out of the Crater.

Early morning breakfast, check-out and followed by a late morning drive with picnic lunch into the Ngorongoro crater floor, possibility to see the Big Five in the last hours before a stop at Ngoitokitok Springs Picnic Site is situated southeast of the ridge Ngorongoro Crater, and close to the peak Rumbe Hill.

The drive of 4 hr 49min (149 mi) back to Arusha – Kilimanjaro International Airport for your out bound flight to your next destination.

You will visit a Hazda encampment and woodlands with towering Baobabs and gnarled acacias and you can also join in hunting and gathering for seasonal offerings such as wild honey or baobab fruit.
