Overview

On 24,000 acres, Ol Lentille Conservancy, is small in comparison to the other conservancies within Laikipia, though does not lessen the conservancy’s role in protecting the natural habitats of Laikipia. Holding within its boundaries, an important share of the greater Ewaso Nyiro River and Laikipia eco-systems

An active contributor to the wildlife management plans, local communities have self-identified rotational grazing areas, livestock quotas, and separate are for villages and other settlements, local communities benefit from the conservancy as all fixed assets and revenue belong to the local peoples. The approach ensures buy-in from the communities and also instills a sense of pride in the success of wildlife protection.

The Conservancy is co-managed by local people who worked closely with the African Wildlife Foundation to define effective wildlife management strategies, with additional support from Regenesis Limited (Local), and the Ol Lentille Trust (a UK non-profit organization).

Having successfully created safari conservation programs that have attracted Kenya’s prized wild animals to roam and reside freely, namely plains game from Giraffes, Kudus, Buffalo, and Elephants, to stalking predators like Leopards, Hyena, endangered species such as the African wild dog, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and Oryx as well as a variety of smaller mammals, Unusual Bird are plentiful, the flora of great interest and which varies dramatically with seasonal rains.
