Mara Naboisho Conservancy
Location: Adjacent to the Masai Mara National Reserve, Narok County, Kenya
Area: over 53,000 acres
Overview
The conservancy was established in 2010, as a result of a partnership between 500 Maasai landowners working to conserve their land. The Maasai Mara Game Reserve border the conservancy to the southwest, the Olare Motorogi Conservancy to the west, and the Ol Kinyei Conservancy to its east, spanning 145sq. km, and span 145 sq. km.
The conservation efforts include limiting the number of visitors and safari vehicles, within the conservation on a daily basis, as such only nine camps are in the entire conservancy, with a ratio of 350acres of space to every available bed. The limited number of guests means that the staff is able to give you the attention needed.
As high game-viewing standards are enforced not only to improve the viewing experience but also to protect the wildlife the conservancy is free of the restrictions that make so many national park safaris pedestrian. It has the highest lion densities in the world, with roughly 100 lions living in the vicinity.
The largest pride in the Greater Mara region comprises 20 lions having made the conservancy home.
Home to impressive herds of elephant, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra, and the Kenyan rare Wild Dog, in addition to the abundance of resident game, the Conservancy serves as a migration corridor for several thousand animals between Maasai Mara Reserve and the Loita plains to the east, ensuring the migratory cycles, and patterns are not disturbed or forced to change.
