Overview

Situated within Kibwezi, in the luscious surroundings of an ancient 18,000 acre groundwater forest which forms part of the Chyulu Hills National Park. The forest provides a habitat for a number of species this exclusive use, self-catering contemporary lodge. A biodiversity hotspot renowned for its spectacular variety of butterflies and birds. The Lodge is a self-catering property overlooking waterholes fed by the Umani Springs.

Uniqueness of this Camp

The Lodge is booked exclusively and renowned for its diversity in bird and butterfly life and a very important staging post for the release of orphaned elephants back into the wild and provides sanctuary to many animals during the Jul-Oct dry season, notably elephants, elands and hartebeests.

Accommodation

Three cottages which can accommodate up to 10 guests’.

Unit 1:  this two-story unit was built with families in mind. Downstairs features a twin bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a private sitting room. Upstairs, a double bed bedroom is accompanied by a downstairs outdoor bathroom which looks out to the stars. 

Unit 2: this room has two giant twin beds, an en suite bathroom, and a private sitting area. The unit also features an outdoor shower and a generous deck that overlooks the waterhole.
Unit 3: This is the most remote unit. It is comprised of two rooms: the first has giant twin beds and an en suite bathroom; the second has a double bed with an outside bathroom.

Amenities

Hotel Amenities: 24 hrs. security, Hotel is powered by solar electricity with back-up generator, NO hairdryers to be used, clear medical advice is required from your doctor as No doctor’s in close proximity to Lodge and as such it is advisable to get a comprehensive medical insurance( Flying Doctor’s Membership) as Kibwezi Forest falls within a malarial area.  Wi-Fi access and limited mobile phone reception, check with staff on which location is best. Wheel chair access limited, laundry, indoor bath/shower, Lodge pool, fans are available on request, in room safe and mosquito nets.

Activities

Croquet, badminton and volleyball sets are available upon request, game drive circuits within the unique Kibwezi Forest, Access to the orphans at the stockades in the early morning and evening, as well as the 11am mud bath, Relaxation around the swimming pool and private areas, excursions to the Chyulu Hills National Park by own arrangements, guided walks in the forest and to the Umani Springs. Hiking up Umani Hill to a lookout platform, Birding platform overlooking the springs, Sundowner deck, with commanding views of the forest and the Chyulu Hills beyond, a look-out platform on top of Umani Hill.
