The Camp is a true oasis which attracts thousands of animals for their daily drink and bathing with thrilling adventure and impeccable service, in Tsavo East Kenya’s largest protected area and the sheer abundance of wildlife is breathtaking. So whether enjoying game viewing from one of our open game viewing vehicles or watching herds of elephant bathe from the privacy of your verandah.
The camp is equipped with 4 x 4 vehicles, equipped either everything needed for the perfect game drive, (binoculars, guide books on mammals and bird life, even a cool box with chilled drinks at the ready). Children at all ages are allowed, however – the Camp uses the housekeeping staff (who are not trained babysitters’ should a guest request one) free of charge with 3 cots and 2 high chairs.

Enjoying a unique setting overlooking a watering hole in the heart of Kenya’s Tsavo East National Park, Satao Camp delivers the ultimate safari experience. With spacious tented accommodation complemented by first-class and genuine hospitality. The camp’s watering hole attracts approximately 1000 elephants a day and ensures the wildlife habitat has water which never dries up. The tents are carefully positioned to allow uninterrupted views of the visiting wildlife whilst ensuring total privacy.
Accommodation
The camp has 20 authentic safari style en-suite tents, with private verandahs, nestled among the tamarind trees surrounding the camp’s very own watering hole. There are 16 tents and 4 suites at the Camp. The tents interiors are simply exquisite and furnished with a unique African design. The suites are larger and positioned closest to the water hole with a honeymoon suite.
Satao Camp tents are suitably designed & adapted to cater for guests with disabilities. All tents are ensuite with bathroom, balcony, hot water, king-size bed in doubles and singles beds for twins and triples.

Camp Amenities: Meals are on full board basis, camp fire, main dining and restaurant, laundry service at extra charge, Cashier keeps all valuable in a safe at the office, there is no formal foreign exchange at the Camp and wheel chair access.
Activities
Game viewing in open roof 4 x4 safari vehicles, sundowner, birding, and the nearby attractions are at the Mudanda Rock about 1.6 kms inselberg of stratified rock that acts as a water catchment that supplies a natural dam below. Here you get an excellent vantage point for the hundreds of elephants and other wildlife that come to drink during the dry season.
Trip to the Galana River, Lugard Falls is a series of white water rapids running between some remarkable rock formations. Or book a full day game drive with a picnic lunch to see both the falls and also Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow. Its incredible 290 km length was formed by lava from Ol Doinyo Sabuk Mountain.
