Overview
‘Sasaab’ is the Samburu name of a local white flowering shrub (a sub-species of Ipomoea) that grows in this area. When the seasonal rains quench the thirsty earth of this semi-arid region, beautiful bursts of colourful flowers dot the scrubland and the landscape awakens with new life.
A luxury Camp, each of the nine canvas-sided rooms is over 100m² with private plunge pools and breath-taking views across the Laikipia Plateau toward the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya. The architecture at Sasaab blends Swahili and Moroccan design principals, in which the African heat is of primary consideration. Its position above the river naturally facilitates watching the herds of elephant that come to bathe below as well as a host of other wildlife.
Situated just outside Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District, the landscape is dotted with mountains, wildlife and a rich cultural heritage. The design of this luxury safari lodge was born out of a need to protect it from the seasonal flooding of the mighty Ewaso Nyiro River. Sasaab was built high above the water on a rocky ridgeline.
All guests enjoy full-board accommodation during their stay, which includes all meals, drinks and alcohol, excluding champagne and premium wines/spirits. Game drives, bush breakfasts and sundowners are all included, as are nature walks and camel rides.
Uniqueness of this Camp
Sasaab is a joint venture between The Safari Collection, Westgate Community Conservancy and The Northern Rangelands Trust. Perched on a rocky outcrop in the heart of Samburu, overlooking the impressive Ewaso Nyiro River, Sasaab provides an intimate safari setting.
Accommodation
7 luxury suites, spacious and designed to act as a private sanctuary. Each has a private plunge pool, chill out space (either a veranda or mini-garden),
and large open-air bathrooms. Every room is intensely private. Luxury Tent 4 is the nearest room to the central dining area and is therefore best suited to guests with less mobility.
Each tent over 100m², ensuite bathroom with rain showers, verandas with private plunge pools, balcony / deck, dressing gowns, Internet Access (Complimentary), laundry Service (Complimentary), mosquito nets, safe, Tea / Coffee.
