Overview

In the deep Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, nestles the Sanctuary Gorilla Camp a 10-minute walk from the park headquarters at Bwindi National Park. Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage site, accessible by air on scheduled flights from Entebbe to Kihihi airstrip – 1 hr. 45mins fly time, as the closest airstrip to the camp, is 1 hour and 15 minutes drive away.

In addition to the gorillas, Bwindi is home to rare forest elephants, giant forest hogs, and eleven kinds of primates, such as red-tailed and blue monkeys, black and white colobus, baboons, and chimpanzees. You can also find forest duiker antelopes, bushbuck antelopes, and over 200 species of butterflies.

In one of Africa’s remotest areas, situated uniquely inside the national park, sits these ecologically respectful, contemporary-yet-classic in style, spacious eight tents, these comfortable canvas spaces are dressed with indigenous prints and furniture made from natural materials. 

Each featuring two queen-sized beds draped in neutral-toned linens, local artifacts set a scene that ensures memorable moments both inside and outside the accommodation. Stone-walled bathroom with private sections, and a free-standing bath, this camp blends in sensitively with the dramatic African mountain landscape.

The camp’s communal area stars a comfortable lounge, well-stocked bar, an elegant dining area, and a campfire – under star-strewn skies, guests gather around to swap stories of the day’s adventure. Mealtimes here, lend a taste of the destination, with the Chefs expertise, dishes are prepared with promising simple flavours that showcase fresh local ingredients – the traditional smoked beef in peanut sauce served with Kalo (millet bread). The option of candlelit alfresco dining is available on your tent’s private deck.

Children of all ages are welcome in the camp, but children up to the age of 11 are required to share a room with an adult with children aged 15 or older allowed to take part in gorilla trekking. Proudly involved with the Bwindi Community Hospital and Victory School in the area, by supporting them through various projects. – Sanctuary Retreats Philanthropy (SRP) throughout East and Southern Africa.
