Jongomero Camp Guest tent double bed

Location: Ruaha National Park

Overview

With 40kms to the nearest camp, Jongomero is captivatingly secluded from the well-worn safari trail.  In all our activities, our guests can indulge in solitude, which offers not only an intimate closeness to nature but also exclusive game viewing experiences.

Set along the banks of the seasonal Jongomero River, in the south of Ruaha National Park- which holds one of the greatest populations of elephants in any African park. Buffalo gather in large herds, giraffes, zebras, impala, eland, hippo, crocodile, lion, and leopard. The rarer, lesser-seen creatures can also be found, including sable and roan antelope, dik-dik, greater and lesser kudus, Grants gazelle, and honey badgers.

It is second only to Nyerere National Park (former Selous Game Reserve) for the largest population of wild dogs.  Known for the rapids of the Great Ruaha River and its rugged landscape of undulating hills, rocky outcrops, and a horizon studded with the imposing silhouettes of the iconic baobab; no other park in Tanzania epitomizes the definition of “Wild Africa” quite like Ruaha. Ruaha is accessible all year round.

Positioned on one of the meanders, with sweeping views of the bank beyond, lies the camp bar, lounge, and restaurant; which comprises an open wooden terrace shaded by a high thatched roof with comfortable sofas and furniture made of reclaimed dhow wood.

Blending in beautifully with its surroundings, the camp is tucked below a dappled riverine canopy on the banks of the seasonal Jongomero River, a natural pathway for animals in search of water. Eight large and well-appointed suites are built on raised wooden platforms, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private deck that overlooks the dry riverbed.

Here you snuggle under warming quilts in an enormous reclaimed-dhow wooden bed as you fall asleep to the sounds of Africa beyond the canvas, and wake up to the morning tea/coffee tray. Often than not, find animals ambling past your tent in search of water and food.

The Camp accepts children from six years old with international bookings and children from 10 years old with resident bookings. The camp is unfenced and children are the responsibility of their parent or guardian, at all times.

The ultimate remote off-the-beaten-track safari experience, with inviting spots to relax with a book, and socialize with camp managers and fellow guests around the bar with an ice-cold drink in hand. Laze around the pool on warm days, and enjoy the sights and sounds of being so close to nature.

Accessible by Air through Jongomero Airstrip, which is 5 minutes drive from camp. Coastal Aviation, Auric, and Safari Airlink or drive through via the Ruaha Main Entrance Gate. The Camp does not take bookings with vehicles and drivers/guides. However, if guests go on game drives with our guides, the driver can be then accommodated in our guide tents.
