Location: Lamu Archipelago, Lamu County, Kenya

Overview

A magnificent 65-foot dhow converted for private charter, Tusitiri is available for day excursions from Lamu as well as longer sailing safaris. Tusitiri carries all the latest fishing and water sports gear and there is no more luxurious way to explore the Kenya coast. Tusitiri Dhow operates all year around with the exception of the rainy season from May – July. The Enasoit Collection story began with a Norwegian family’s love for Africa. Born out of a spirit of adventure. 30 years ago the family created two enchanting Kenyan retreats. Tusitiri Dhow, a restored traditional dhow based in the Lamu Archipelago, and Enasoit, a private wildlife reserve and luxury tented camp in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Both properties are available for exclusive hire. Tusitiri Dhow is the family’s coastal home. Tusitiri is one of East Africa’s last large trading dhows and through Tusitiri’s restoration a special part of Kenya’s Swahili cultural heritage is preserved.

Uniqueness of this Dhow

Tusitiri Dhow is based in the pristine Lamu Archipelago – a rare gem in the Indian Ocean. Long white sandy beaches are fringed with palm and acacia trees; turquoise waters teeming with marine life are curved and shaped by mangrove forests. A unique and historic dhow lovingly transformed for live-aboard guests.

Accommodation

Life on-board is relaxed and centered on Tusitiri’s broad deck, with sumptuous cushioned seating areas and a dining area arranged around the wooden mast. Meals are prepared in the open-air galley kitchen at the bow, and served in the shaded dining area. There are beautiful views over the ocean, quiet corners to relax, and the day-cabins below deck provide storage and changing facilities. At night, brass lanterns light up the deck and comfortable white linen bedrolls are set up on deck after dinner. On Tusitiri, all the beds are star-beds! Accommodates up to 10 overnight guests – and up to 20 for day excursions to Lamu.
