Overview

Open all year, this Lodge on Chale Island’s coral sand bay counts as one of the best that Kenya has to offer with stunning white beach, fringed by coral reefs and a tidal saltwater lake surrounded by a mangrove forest. Lying just four degrees south of the equator, Chale Island offers you a choice of worlds that no other island can equal.

Chale Island is a small romantic island situated 600 meters off the mainland. 10 km south of Diani, 1.2 km long and 0.8 km wide, with a general north/south orientation. The Island is divided into two parts; resort and sacred forest or “kaya”.  The resort lies in 15 acres of indigenous ancient forest, with a stunning 10,000 square meter white sand bay which is protected by a vibrant coral reef.

The secluded bay is covered with snow-white powder fine coral sand and due to the remoteness of the Island, this is the only beach in Kenya that can truly be called private. Due to the lack of seaweed pile-ups, turtles frequently lay eggs in the bay adding to the charm of this magical Island.  Two thirds of Chale Island is an ancient mangrove forest, which boasts the tallest mangrove trees in East Africa.

The Island is known as a sacred kaya (forest). With stunning white beach fringed by coral reefs and a tidal saltwater lake surrounded by a mangrove forest, the island also offers a diverse mixture of indigenous and tropical flora that attracts a wide variety of fascinating insect and primate life.

With six different room types available, offering a spacious and comfortable stay, all units are furnished in traditional style and feature sea views, individually controlled air- conditioning, fan, shower / WC, terrace, mosquito net, safe, hairdryer, Internet Access (Complimentary), Tea / Coffee

Standard Rooms: 12 double rooms are located in the main building next to the Galana pool and 28 spacious semicircular double rooms in 2 towers each with 4 floors.

Lagoon Banda: 14 rooms (in Swahili: small house) as individual bungalows, palm thatched with large bathrooms and view overlooking the Chale Channel. A small private garden area with sun loungers, a terrace with Swahili daybeds.

Beach Banda: 14 room Bandas palm thatched, individual bungalows, large bathrooms, an enchanting view of the beach and Ocean, a small private garden area with sun loungers and a terrace with Swahili daybeds.

Penthouse Suite: 2 rooms set well above the swaying treetops these suites offer breathtaking views of the ocean and island. The two penthouses are at the top of the towers, bedroom with spacious separate living room, bath robes, bottled water dispenser (inclusive), mini bar (Surcharge), the upper floor has a terrace and Jacuzzi from where you can enjoy an amazing 270 degree view of the spectacular sunset and 24 hrs. Power supply.

Overwater Suite: This one suite has bathrobes, drinking water dispenser (inclusive), mini bar (surcharge), a living room, a large bedroom ensuite bathroom with direct access to the terrace which has a day bed and views of the canal towards Bird Island and the Gazi Bay. This room has 24 hrs. power supply

Suite on the Rocks: this suite is a generously landscaped bungalow on a small separate island connects with a bridge to the main island, a loft-style bedroom / living room with connected bathrooms, bathrobes, bottled water dispenser (inclusive) and a Mini bar (extra charge). The rainwater flows into a mini garden in the center of the suite from the thatched roof, the circular staircase leads to the upper gallery, there is a Jacuzzi and this room has 24 hrs power supply, best for honeymooners.

Between the standard rooms is another swimming pool area, pool bar and sun beds. On the other side of the Island by the SPA and fitness area is a salt-water swimming pool with steps leading directly into the sea at high tide offering a magical swim through the mangroves to the main jetty, Restaurant, Secure Parking and Spa.
