Overview

Perched on Magashi Peninsula, Magashi Camp looks out over scenic Lake Rwanyakazinga, towards the Mutumba Mountains in the west. Magashi’s home is 6 000 exclusive-use hectares (14 826 acres) of Akagera National Park, like Rwanda itself, a miraculous story of survival and regeneration. Located in the Country’s North East, Akagera was devastated by the 1994 genocide and its aftermath, with a rise in poaching and returnees settling with their cattle on park land. The camp’s intimate, Six spacious and airy tented guest accommodations offer uninterrupted views over Lake Rwanyakazinga. The main area comprises of a luxurious lounge, dining area, bar and pool, as well as an expansive viewing deck with convivial fire pit. The Camp’s warm and welcoming staff love sharing their traditional Kugisha supper with guests, accompanied by cattle-herding songs and stories. Solar panels have been installed to generate electricity for the camp though generators are also present for uninterrupted power supply on cloudy or rainy days, the water supply is sourced from a borehole and purified using natural systems. Children aged 6 years and above are welcome.

Uniqueness of this Camp

Our core Purpose here is to help conserve Rwanda’s last protected savannah ecosystem, and species like black rhino, as well as the rare and elusive shoebill.

Accommodation

Twin/Double Tents (6 Rooms). Spacious, airy canvas tented accommodation that pays homage to Rwandan culture using a traditional, elegant East African safari feel. The interior design features’ an array of locally-sourced artefacts and elements inspired by the camp’s exceptional natural setting and Rwanda’s amazing renaissance – a huge part of which has seen the reinvention of traditional textiles and ceremonies in a modern context. Electrical Outlets, en-suite facilities with indoor shower, single vanity basin and separate toilet. Fan, Internet Access (Complimentary), Laundry Service (Complimentary), Mini Bar, Mosquito Nets, Safe, Tea / Coffee, Verandah, bathrobes, slippers, electronic safe for storing valuables , a vanity kit, eco-friendly detergent.
