Fringed with doum palms and overlooking the Yatta Plateau, Galdessa Camp offers a luxurious and once in a lifetime opportunity for travellers seeking to immerse themselves in a hidden and untouched corner of Tsavo National Park. Galdessa, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s newest property, has two separate camps: Galdessa Camp and Galdessa Little. With its safari-style setting and front row view of all the wildlife activity on the Galana River. Galdessa was originally built in the early 1980s, but it was later purchased by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Guests at Galdessa Little have exclusive use of the camp but note, that Galdessa Camp and its amenities are not accessible for guests staying at the Galdessa Little, unless both are booked together. The well-appointed kitchen is equipped with two generous fridges, a freezer, gas cooker and oven, gas BBQ, and an ice cream machine.

Uniqueness of this Camp

Special access to visit the orphan elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Voi Reintegration Unit for Foster Parents. Galdessa Little is self-catering and allows you to enjoy your own private home in the bush. You are able to structure your stay according to your rhythm, with everything tailored to your own personal needs. The experienced and attentive staff offer discreet service, ensuring that you are well taken care of and fully informed about all that Galdessa Little and the surrounding Park has to offer, and comes with a trained chef, waiters, room stewards, and guides. It was completely rebuilt in 2018, incorporating luxury touches while preserving the integrity of the property and the old-world charm it evokes. Galdessa Little and Galdessa Camp along with four other properties, makes up the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s not-for-profit portfolio of eco-lodges.

Accommodation

Galdessa Camp accommodates 10 people across five tents of twin and double beds each includes an en suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, can be booked in tandem with Galdessa little, which sleeps a further 6 people across the three tented bedroom which feels like its own private oasis, shaded by doum palms, offering stunning views of the Galana River.  The tent’s are elevated and situated under thatch roofs. Enjoy the bedroom’s front deck or enjoy a shower under the stars.

Camp Amenities: Under a thatched roof, the airy mess area provides a large, communal space for guests to gather and immerse themselves in Tsavo’s natural beauty, a combined living and dining room gives way to wooden decks perched on the river’s edge. The terraced swimming pool, which sits in the shade of doum palms, offers basking beaches and uninterrupted views of the Galana River and beyond. Activities

Sundowners Game drives within the unique southern area of Tsavo East, bush breakfasts, Guided walks, and access to the orphans at the Voi stockades is available for foster parents by appointment.  Relaxation in camp, enjoying the resident wildlife.
